Doncaster Dog Agility Club

We are a small family run fun agility club in Sprotbrough, Doncaster.

We aim to introduce local dog owners to the world of agility.

What is it

Dog Agility

You might have seen dog agility before — the sport where dogs zoom around an obstacle course, flying over jumps and through tunnels, side-by-side with their handler thinking my dog will never do that. But any breed and any age handler can do agility. In fact over 50% of agility handlers are women between 35-65 years of age.

Agility ?

It’s made up of various obstacles for your dog (not you!) to run through, jump over, and weave in and out of – and all against the clock!

Can any dog train?

For safety’s sake, it is recommended that dogs do not start training on equipment until they are at least 1 year old

Different Course Types ?

Agility classes involve both jumping and agility courses. Each course features a variety of agility obstacles, however jumping courses do not require the dogs to undertake the see-saw, dog walk or ‘A’ Frame obstacles.

Basic Skills

weekly classes

We will help you and your dog learn some of the basics like jumping and tunnels. If your dog can master these then we can start other areas of agility.

Intermediate

Other Obstacles

Once your dog has learnt some basics then they can move onto the more tricky equipment such as dog walks, see saws and weaving poles

Full Courses

a Full Agility courses

When your dog has a knowledge of the agility equipment then it can start to do full course set ups and learn how do do them faster!

The Obstacles?

Jumps or Hurdles

The height of your dog will determine how high these are set at! The jumps are held up between 2 wings that your dog must go between and of course over the bar too!.

Tunnels

Your dog must go through this in the order that it is placed on the course. These can be 3m to 6m in length and set either straight or at a curved angle.

Weaving Poles

Normally 6 or 12 poles in a straight line. Your dog has to navigate them in a zig-zag pattern. Always entering the weaving poles with the first pole adjacent to its left side.

A-Frame

The highest piece of equipment for your dog to go up and over touching the bottom marked area going up and also the marked area going down.

Dog Walk

This is a gentle up slope then flat and then back down, normally at a fairly fast speed!!. Theres also marked areas on the boards at the start and finish which your dog must touch.

See Saw

The dog goes up and past the tipping point the dog must force the see saw down with their weight without jumping off, touching both marked contact areas.

Why Do Agility?

Z

Physical and Mental Energy

It helps build lean muscle, strengthen joints and improve your dog’s co-ordination. Also mental energy release — after even a short session of agility practice, you’ll often have one tired pup

Z

Distraction Training

No matter whether you train agility at home or at an agility training facility, your dog will need to get used to distractions they might not face in everyday life. Over time, it may help your dog to be able to ignore distractions in day-to-day life much easier too.

Z

Greater Trust & Confidence in your Dog

Working with your dog in agility, you build a level of trust and confidence. Trust around other dogs, people and situations that may otherwise be a source of stress.

Z

Build your Dog’s Confidence

Agility training can help your dog get over fears of unusual surfaces, small spaces, ‘scary’ situations, and completing tasks without being right by your side.

Z

Developing Self-Control

In doing agility practice, your dog will learn self control and commit to the task that you’re asking them to do.
